Acupuncture / Laser Therapy

Our hospital offers integrative medicine and acupuncture for pets with acute and chronic diseases. Acupuncture can be successfully combined with conventional veterinary treatments to enlist the patient's natural healing mechanisms. An integrative medicine approach for many patients can help reduce the duration of hospitalization and improve outcomes. It can also improve the quality of life of many of our senior patients with chronic debilitating conditions by improving mobility and reducing pain and thus, the need for medications in many. Our Certified Veterinary Acupuncture specialist has extensive training in the practice of acupuncture and herbal medicine. Her goal is to work with the Board Certified Specialists and family veterinarian to provide the best possible quality of life for the pet in a caring and compassionate setting.

The effects of acupuncture are cumulative, such that a sequence of treatment sessions is recommended and that treatment course will vary with each patient or disease process.  Acupuncture treatments are tailored to the individual patient and may or may not be combined with electrostimulation or cold laser therapy.  Acupuncture can activate natural endorphins in the body (pain relieving neurohormones), reduce inflammation and increase blood flow, stimulate the immune system, and stimulate central and autonomic nervous system.  Conditions that can benefit from acupuncture include: acute and chronic pain associated with most orthopedic and neurologic conditions, digestive disturbances, skin allergies, ear infections, heart and lung diseases, urinary tract infections, kidney disease, and cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.
